Monofilament wigs, are wigs that are woven on to a base material that is breathable, light and mesh-like in appearance. These wigs are much more comfortable to wear, and can be worn with ease for prolonged periods of time without any discomfort such as sweating and itchiness.

  1. Monofilament wigs are wigs with hair that is hand-tied on to a mesh like material. This material is light and comfortable and unlike other materials like cloth and leather, will not cause any discomfort or irritation and can be worn for prolonged periods of time. The lace material used is very feathery, yet strong.
  2. Unlike machine made wigs, monofilament wigs take a very long time to make. Due to the handmade nature of these wigs and the fact that each hair is individually hand-tied to the base a monofilament wig takes longer to manufacture.
  3. Monofilament wigs cost more than a machine made wig. An average human head contains tens of thousands of hair strands. Weaving all of them onto a base made of lace is understandably time-consuming. A wig master can be at it for days, and this will add to the cost. However, the result in the end will be worth the effort.
  4. These wigs are more often than not, made of the good quality human hair and/or synthetic fibers. It does not make sense to spend so much time making this type of wig to use cheap hair. Hence, the best hair is usually reserved to make monofilament wigs.
  5. Monofilament wigs create the illusion of natural hair growth at the top of the wig, crown or part line. The hair is very evenly spread out just like in a real head of human hair. The mesh-like material creates the appearance of your natural scalp. A full monofilament top also allows you to move your part around, giving you more styling options.
  6. Celebrities wear monofilament wigs because in their case, looks are everything. They need to appear their best, and for that reason they need to have the hairstyle that suits them the most. For that uncompromising quality, a lace wig is the ideal choice. Besides, celebrities usually have enough money to buy high-quality wigs. These wigs are used in theater and in movie productions because they look very real. The camera captures everything and hence the wig cannot look fake.
  7. Since the hairs are woven on to a lace-like material, they are free to swivel where they are tied, and are hence very easy to style and comb.
  8. There are basically three types of monofilament wigs. The entire top of the wig is hand-tied on a monofilament top wig. On a Monofilament Crown only a very small portion of the wig is hand-tied, usually at the very top of the wig. A Monofilament Part is only hand-tied at the part line and is fixed in place, either on the right, left or center of the wig.
  9. Monofilament wigs can be combined with different cap constructions. For example, you can have a monofilament top combined with a hand-knotted cap. You can also have a monofilament top combined with a lace front.
  10. Monofilament wigs are in high demand due to their natural appearance. This type of wig is preferred by people experiencing hair loss due to medical reasons, such as chemotherapy treatments.

I recently got into wigs. I'm surprised more girls don't talk about them. They are so easy to wear - and great for bad hair days. And when you wear the good ones - no one can tell! I want to help others with information, and I'm always looking for more wigs!
